Fountain Issues
- Make sure there is enough water in the fountain and the pump is completely submerged. If the pump is not fully submerged it will take in air and this may cause splashing.
- Adjust the flow rate on the pump by either turning the dial that is flush against the pump, or moving the adjuster stick which should protrude out of the pumps body.
- Make sure the fountain is on level ground and is not tilted.
- The fountain just needs more water. The water may look soapy or milky when there is not enough water in the fountain. As the fountain fills with more water, the color of the water will clear up.
- Make sure there is enough water in the fountain and that the pump is completely submerged. If the pump is not fully submerged the pump will take in air and may cause noise.
- Make sure the pump isn’t touching any side of the fountain other than the bottom that keeps the pump secured to the fountain with the suction cups.
- If all of the lights went out at the same time, this is most likely due to a transformer failure. If only one light has failed, and others are still lit, then this is a bulb failure. Replacement bulbs and transformers may be purchased from our certified parts dealer.
- If the lights are halogen bulbs, please replace the bulb as it may just be burnt out. (Halogen Bulbs are not covered under the manufactured warranty) LED bulbs are covered under the manufacture warranty. Replacement bulbs may be purchased from our certified parts dealer.
- The fountain probably hasn’t been turned on for a while and the water has been standing still. When this occurs the water starts to smell because of bacteria growing in the water. The water should be replaced, but if the water cannot be taken out use a fountain cleaner as instructed in the manual and run the fountain. If you have no fountain cleaner available use the following method. For each gallon of water pour a capful of white vinegar in the fountain and run the fountain.
- We do not recommend the use of chlorine in a fountain. Any abrasive chemicals may damage the fountains paint as well as the pump which will void the manufacture warranty.
- All of Alpine’s fountains are coated with a UV protective finish; yet due to uncontrollable weather conditions, we highly recommend recoating the fountain to lengthen its life and prevent the finish from fading and/or peeling. In order to protect your fountain from outdoor weather exposure, we recommend you spray the fountain every 6-12 months using Alpine’s Americana Acrylic Sealer Finish (RRR106). This can be purchased through our certified parts dealer.
- Alpine’s Americana Acrylic Sealer Finish (RRR106) application instructions:
- Clean the entire fountain of all dust and debris using warm water.
- Let the fountain completely air dry.
- Shake the can of Alpine’s Americana Acrylic Sealer Finish thoroughly before applying.
- Hold the can approximately 10 inches away from the surface of the fountain and spray with a smooth side-to-side motion.
- Allow at least 15 minutes for the coat to dry.
- Repeat steps 3 -5.
- For extra protection in water running areas, spray a third additional light coat.
- Allow sealant to dry for at least 24 hours before running your fountain again.
- In cold climates, Alpine highly recommends to store your fountain and pump inside during the coldest months of the year. If this is not possible, follow the steps below:
- Unplug and drain your fountain completely until it is completely dry of water.
- Fill the fountain bowl(s) with burlap to prevent water from freezing on your fountain.
- Disconnect the pump from the tubing located on the back of the fountain.
- Store the pump inside during the winter to prevent water freezing inside the pump motor.
- Cover the fountain with an Alpine waterproof cover for the winter. Alpine fountain covers can be found through our certified parts dealer.
- The purpose of this process is to keep water from staying or building up in your water feature. The water in your fountain could freeze and therefore expand, leading to flaking surfaces or even cracks. Make sure to check your fountain during the winter season often in order to prevent any water build up.
- Keep in mind that algae will grow more quickly in bright sunshine areas, so you may choose not to put your fountain in direct sunlight. We highly recommend changing the water in the fountain every month to reduce the growth of algae.
- To help prevent the algae build up in your fountain, we suggest using Alpine’s All Natural Fountain Formula (PPL102) on a weekly basis. This formula will also fight against mineral deposits and remove these deposits. This can be purchased from our certified parts dealer.
- Maintaining the pump will prevent water build up which can harm your pump.
- Alpine recommends you use distilled water. Normal tap water contains impurities, and minerals that can lead to allege and/or calcium build up.
- Make sure there is enough water in the fountain and the pump is completely submerged. If the pump is not fully submerged the pump will take in air and this may cause splashing, foaming, or excess noise.
- Adjust the flow rate on the pump by either turning the dial that is flush against the pump, or moving the adjuster stick which should protrude out of the pumps body.
- Make sure the fountain is on level ground and is not tilted.
Pump Issues
- Make sure there is enough water and that the pump is completely submerged. If the pump is not fully submerged the pump will take in air and may cause noise.
- Make sure the pump is not touching any walls or obstructions, other than the bottom.
- If you still hear noise, please review the video for your specific pump, to disassemble the pump and check if there is any damage in the pump:
- You may cut the electrical cord; however, this will void any warranty from the manufacturer.
- You do not need to use a filtration bag, but it would be a great investment to prolong the life of the pump. The filter bag helps keep debris from getting caught in the pump.
